Who we are
StudyLab SA is an educational web application operated by [owner name — TBD] (the "Information Officer" under POPIA). Contact: privacy@studybuddy.co.za
Data we collect
- Parent email address and password (via Supabase Auth)
- Child first name, age range, grade, language preference, and optional school name
- Uploaded study material and past exam papers
- Test answers, scores, and AI-generated feedback
- Audit log of account actions (12-month retention)
We do not collect child surnames, ID numbers, photos, or location data. Optional school name is used to help group overlapping study material and must be reviewed in the final legal policy before launch.
Third-party processing (POPIA §72)
Your child's first name and uploaded study content are sent to Anthropic's Claude API (US-based) for AI processing. Anthropic does not use API content to train models. This cross-border transfer is necessary to perform the service and will be disclosed in the final T&Cs.
Data is hosted on Supabase (EU West region until a South African region is available).
Your rights (POPIA §23–24)
- Access: Download all your data from Settings → Download my data.
- Correction: Edit child profiles from Settings at any time.
- Deletion: Delete your account from Settings. Data is erased within 30 days.
- Withdrawal of consent: Delete your account; this withdraws consent and triggers data deletion.
